We: The public

Following the atrocious events in Paris and later in Belgium it is clear that ISIS is determined to target the protectors of the law in the west. They appear to be bound to attack police officers rather than the public - according to theor press releases - and yet Jews are nor exempt.

Governments ask the public to be vigilant, and that is good - almost expected considering the failure of security forces to do the same. What the governments do not do. however, is change the laws governing the right of citizens to bear arms. If this had been the case in Paris the terrorists would not have had it so easy. If just one of the hostages had been armes. and had the courage to shoot, the final outcome may have been quite different. There are many members of the public in Europe who have previous experience in the military but they are prevented from doing what they would by stupid legislation concerning firearms.

If the public were allowed to defend themselves it would create a difficult obstacle to terrorists. Some may say that permitting such legislation would allow criminals to also carry arms.

THEY DO ALREADY!

The police are aware of these people and can continue their inept struggle against these people. My solution in many ways helpd them too. If we were armed the criminals would also have pause for thought. Of course some laws would have to be changed, for instance how a citizen was charged in the event of shooting someone who posed a threat to him/herself. The courts could later sort this out but the right to self defence should be made the first priority of any civilised society.

Terrorism has to be fought with terrorism. These Muslim extremists are not courageous people by any means - they are are basically cowards no matter how they wish to die as martyrs. They will do what they can to escape to commit further attacks. A dead terrorist is a safe one!
